Press Release.

Mayhem Film Festival to host UK Premiere of HEADSHOT and live performance from THE DUKE ST WORKSHOP feat. Laurence R. Harvey

With its 12th edition fast approaching, Mayhem Film Festival is proud to announce it will screen the UK Premiere of Headshot from Indonesian duo, Kimo Stamboel and Timo Tjahjanto, aka the Mo Brothers (Macabre, V/H/S/2), at Broadway, Nottingham.

Starring The Raid’s Iko Uwais as Ishmael, Headshot, follows an amnesiac whose violent past comes back to haunt him. After the young doctor who nursed him gets kidnapped, Ishmael finds himself battling gangs of highly-skilled fighters he may have once worked with in the Indonesian underground, sparking fragments of his identity to resurface.

Taking place on 13 – 16 October, this year’s festival will open with a live performance from The Duke St Workshop, featuring cult horror actor Laurence R Harvey (Human Centipede II & III, The Editor), and presented in collaboration with Nottingham-based film club Kino Klubb. The Duke St Workshop will be performing and expanding from their LP, Tales of H.P. Lovecraft, consisting of two Lovecraft stories – ‘From Beyond’ and ‘The Hound’ – told over an hour-long set through meditative tinkles, sputtering howls of eerie electronica and nightmarish narrations. This haunting audio/visual feast is absolutely not to be missed.

"This year the range of films and genres on offer has expanded, explains Mayhem Co-Director Chris Cooke. So it's great that the hyper action and kinetic violence of the Mo Brothers’ latest film, Headshot, as well as the mind-bending horror of H.P. Lovecraft are represented and exist side by side at our festival. Lovecraft really is a crucial architect of the horror genre and this unique event, organised with the ever excellent Kino Klubb is something we're very excited about."

Mayhem Film Festival will take place at Broadway, Nottingham on 13-16 October. Early Bird Passes for the festival are still available at the discounted price of £60 for a limited time only. For more information and to book your passes, please visit

30,000 people go missing in Australia each year, with 90 per cent found within the first month.
The rest are never seen again.

UK: Wednesday 3rd August 2016 – Eureka Entertainment is delighted to announce that it has acquired its highest profile TV series to date with Wolf Creek – a 6 x 60’ psychological thriller which will air on FOX UK from Tuesday 30th August 10pm. Based on the international hit feature film of the same name, John Jarratt reprises his role as murdering psychopath Mick Taylor, wreaking havoc in the Australian outback. Eureka Entertainment will release each episode digitally on demand 24 hours after it has aired on FOX TV, with the DVD and Blu-ray box set available to purchase from 6th October2016.

Wolf Creek follows American teenager Eve Thorogood (Lucy Fry, 11.22.63) on holiday with her family in Northern Australia.  Sadistic killer Mick targets the family, viciously slaughtering them for his own twisted pleasure. Seriously injured, Eve survives the massacre of her parents and little brother, and sets out to bring the killer to justice.  And so begins a chilling game of cat and mouse, with the roles reversed and the hunter becoming the hunted. A Tarantino-esque revenge tale, Wolf Creek reveals Eve’s complex and extraordinary journey, as she evolves from child to adult, from prey to predator. But can she triumph over Mick Taylor, evil incarnate?

Adapted for television by Peter Gawler, Greg McLean and Felicity Packard, Wolf Creek is a Stan Original Series, produced by Screentime and distributed by Zodiak Rights, both Banijay Group companies, in association with Emu Creek Pictures and financed with the assistance of Screen Australia and the South Australian Film Corporation.

Ruth Brukarz-Schofield at Eureka Entertainment said: "This is a really exciting deal and major acquisition for Eureka. It will be a must own package for fans of the first two Wolf Creek movies, genre & horror fans, and any self-respecting fan of international television. We look forward to working alongside Fox TV and helping the show reach a wider UK audience, ahead of the third movie in the series. We expect this will be the first of many international TV titles to add to Eureka's roster, alongside our award winning and critically acclaimed Masters of Cinema Series, as we celebrate the current culture of 'binge watching.’ "

The first episode will be available On Demand on Thursday 1st September 2016 with the following 5 episodes every subsequent Thursday. It will be available as download to own (DTO) via iTunes, Amazon, PS and Xbox.

10 Cloverfield Lane - Reviewed.

After getting in a car accident, a woman is held in a shelter with two men, who claim the outside world is affected by a widespread chemical attack.

Director: Dan Trachtenberg
Writers: Josh Campbell (story), Matthew Stuecken (story)
Stars: John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Gallagher Jr.

10 Cloverfield lane doesn't really have a lot to do with the first one apart from the fact of it's in a different location after the attacks of the original film have taken place, A bit like Fear The Walking Dead. Saying that I did really enjoy it. John Goodman plays a brilliant part as well as the two characters who he kindly lets share his post apocalypse bunker. The film is pretty much all dialogue but that's not a bad thing as it flows along nicely.
The tension levels are very high and even I was thinking when they said they could be down there for at least two years started to feel claustrophobic!
I Can' really reveal too much about what happens within the conversations but needless to say there are a fair phew questions that have to be asked about all the characters.
The ending I felt did get a little silly but overall a lot better than I thought it would be and well worth tracking down. One thing I will say though is that I was hoping to catch this in the cinema but missed out but really cannot see the point of it being on the cinema in IMAX 3D??
Well worth a watch though,
Jonny T.

Green Room - Reviewed

So it was a lovely sunny Monday, I had booked off both the Monday and Tuesday as soon as I found out that the premier of Green Room was being shown at Broadway Nottingham and I have to say I  am really glad I did.
The evening started with us being very  hungry after a long day and a trek around Nottingham, The bar was doing Monday night specials of two for one pizzas so we had some of that pizza goodness!

Upstairs in the bar was a punk disco starting from 6.30 so we headed upstairs and grabbed a cold bottle of beer and in preparation listened to some great tunes from the likes of Wire, The Buzzcocks and The Clash all classic tunes especially orgasm addict which I hadn't heard for a long time. Met up with Chris Cooke who was doing the introduction to Green Room and usually his nervous self but as always there was no need as ticket sales were solid. Also great to catch up with a member of our Mayhem festival family Mike, Sporting a great new Nina Forever tattoo, We finished up our beers and headed for screen 2.

The intro by Chris described the upcoming Green Room without spoilers of similar in tone to classic siege movies such as Rio Grande, Assault on precinct 13 along with the paranoia of The Thing and that summed it up perfectly.
It tells the story of a Punk bad "Ain't Rights" Who are trying to break though and get noticed but without any success, They do a gig to a room of about eight people and get paid around $6 each, Pissed off they ask the promoter for better gigs at which point he says someone he knows is putting on a small music festival that will pay them around $350. They agree to it,  On arrival they realise that the festival is basically for Neo Nazi skinheads. Perhaps the cover they perform of "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" By the brilliant Dead Kennedys is not the best choice but believe me that is just the tip of the violence that will confront them.
No spoilers here but they witness something they shouldn't have done and when they try to get out that's when the shit really hits the fan. They become locked in the Green Room and boy does it get intense.

The characters on both sides are brilliant, The mixture of emotion of feeling sorry/afraid  for the people in the green room and the hatred for the people that are after them is immense. The violence is unflinching and a real punch when it happens and there were a few gasps amongst the audience. I likened it to German Angst that was also shown at Mayhem, This IS real horror. It never lets up, Never gets boring and you never know what will happen next or who will be left at the end. A very high recommend and probably the best film I have seen this year so far. By the way What would be your desert island band be? (let me know when you've seen Green Room)
A very solid 9/10.

Green Room opens Nationally Friday 13th.

Tickets for Green Room at Broadway are available here -

"The Earth's moon is suddenly 70% smaller and permanently crescent shaped by a devastating and unknown force. For the students of E Class, Kunugigaoka Junior High School, the being responsible is known, as their teacher. The strange and very supportive entity has given the Japanese government a challenge to save the Earth from destruction. It wants to be the teacher of the class with the lowest expectations for success, in anything. The students, armed with special weapons that only harm their teacher, must find a way to kill him before the end of the school year. If not, summer break will be canceled by the end of the world."

Assassination classroom is another Manga live action adaptation in the vane of Parasyte and it's equally bonkers if not more so.
Weird aliens have destroyed three quarters of the moon and one of the aliens has come to earth to teach a young class to be assassins. The Alien is octopuss like with the classic "Smiley" face and  his face changes colour dependent on his mood and he requarly sheds his skin. He also offers a reward to the class to anyone who can kill him. If his face turns red get out of his way!
It moves at a million miles an hour so the task is not easy by any means. During the movie they have new students transferred to the classroom who are pretty bad ass and certainly a challenge to the teacher. One stand out scene is when a student arrives who also has tentacles and there is a great stand off and fight.
And also great news there is also a follow up which I will definitely tracking down. Assassination classroom: The Graduation is coming this year!
As with many Manga adaptations it can get a little confusing at times but all in all pretty coherent.
The CGI is superb and the characters are brilliant. It's violent and hilarious in places. Well worth seeking out.

Yakuza Apocalypse - Reviewed

Director: Takashi Miike
Writer: Yoshitaka Yamaguchi (screenplay)
Stars: Yayan Ruhian, Rir├« Furank├«, Hayato Ichihara

In the ruthless underground world of the yakuza, no one is more legendary than boss Kamiura. Rumored to be invincible, the truth is he is a vampire-a bloodsucking yakuza vampire boss! Among Kamiura's gang is Kageyama, his most loyal underling. However, the others in the gang view Kageyama with disdain and ridicule him for his inability to get tattooed due to sensitive skin. One day, assassins aware of boss Kamiura's secret arrive from abroad and deliver him an ultimatum: Return to the international syndicate he left years ago, or die. Kamiura refuses and, during a fierce battle with anime-otaku martial-arts expert Kyoken, is torn limb from limb. With his dying breath, Kamiura bites Kageyama, passing on his vampire powers to the unsuspecting yakuza. As he begins to awaken to his newfound abilities, Kageyama's desire to avenge the murder of boss Kamiura sets him on a course for a violent confrontation with Kaeru-kun, the foreign syndicate's mysterious and seemingly unstoppable leader!

Takashi Miike is known for his prolific output. Some brilliant, some odd and some just bat shit crazy and Yakuza Apocalypse is definitely the latter. After a slown burn 1st 25 minutes it goes truly off its nut!
As you would expect from Miike the cinematography is brilliant. The gore level never let's up and the characters are insane. A stinky yokai monster. A kung-fu frog. An underground slave factory full of men who are constantly knitting whilst having there feet crushed. An Edwardian priest who carries a small coffin on his back and oh did I mention  vampires?
Yes it is as insane as the above would have you think. There were many a time watching it i wondered what the fuck was going on but in saying that it kept me watching and laughing many times through it.
The only thing I would say is the ending is a little frustrating as I would have loved to see more.
All in all well worth a watch but not his best and not his worst. A blast indeed well at least I think it was!
